My concept is based around gender politics, the notion of femininity and how fashion affects women. This theme was triggered from personal experience of attracting unwanted attention while wearing feminine clothes. I address this through fashion, experimental silhouettes and fabric manipulation techniques.
Throughout history ever changing trends impact upon the ideal feminine body, from the exaggerated forms created by corsetry or bustle through to modern surgical manipulation. In either we create bodies that are alien-like. I evolve this concept within my own work to express a dystopian aesthetic of silhouette and sculptural form that invoke respect and are equally inhuman.
