With a background in photography and professional experience in curation, my research interests and creative practices are based on challenging how the gallery environment sees its audiences and markets. The exhibitions I want to produce and the artists I want to work with revolve around themes that are controversial; that cause my audience to face uncomfortable issues to provoke discussion and debate about the works on display and socio-cultural norms. The choice of exhibition plan – juxtaposing seemingly disparate or unlikely artistic relationships is part of my vision.
For my final project I have curated a show using medical illustrations, photography, sculpture and historical references. The exhibition I produced explores the complex nature of the face and its relationship with subjective interpretations, the personal politics of self-identity and the social construction of “What is Normal” and Acceptable?
